ISPEEK Copyright Explained

When buying the ISPEEK CDs or using the freebies it can be a little confusing how copyright works and you wonder what exactly you can do with them. Is it worth the bother of buying them if you are restricted by legalities? It is the same with anyone's images, photos and this is one of the reasons I began to draw my own symbols. I was making resources for the classroom and felt a bit scared of copyright.

There is a copyright notice in each booklet accompanying the CDs plus a statement at the foot of each of these web pages. Here's what it's about :

The CDS bought or freebies downloaded by a school, facility or establishment:
If ISPEEK at Home or ISPEEK at School are bought; or if the freebies are downloaded for an establishment - teachers, teaching assistants, practitioners, nurses or therapists in the establishment may use the images in resources for the students/clients/patients in that establishment. Also, in the case of the CD - one back-up copy can be made for the establishment, in case of any mishap with the main one.

The CDS bought or freebies downloaded by a teacher, teaching assistant, practitioner, nurse or therapist:
If ISPEEK at Home or ISPEEK at School are bought; or if the freebies are downloaded by a teacher, teaching assistant, practitioner, nurse or therapist; they can use the images in resources with persons on their caseload. This also means that if the person travels around different schools, homes and clinics, they may use the resources for the students/clients on their caseload. one back-up copy can be made for the establishment, in case of any mishap with the main one. Copying for the whole LEA,LHS or area clinics and distributing them is not allowed.

The CDs bought or freebies downloaded by a parent or guardian:
If ISPEEK at Home or ISPEEK at School are bought; or if the freebies are downloaded for home use by a parent or guardian - they may use the images in resources for the person/persons they care for in that home. Also, one back-up copy of the CD can be made, in case of any mishap with the main one.

The CDs loaned from a library:
If ISPEEK at Home or ISPEEK at School are borrowed from a library, they can be used to make resources according to the above roles. They can only be used for the length of time you have them and they must not be copied to your computer, onto another disk or saved in any way.

For all other uses:
For uses that do not conform to the copyright guidelines above, you will need to request permission to use the images. You cannot make resources with the images or copy CDs to sell on Ebay.

Selling or giving away resources made with any the ISPEEK images, including the ones on this website; in paper, CD, or electronic form is illegal without the permission of Janet Dixon or Jessica kingsley Publishers.

So, basically: You buy them to use and make any learning, supporting or prompting materials you want. You do not buy them to copy or make things to sell.
