Yes I have drawn them all myself and tried to improve on ones I have used in my work.
How do I know the CDs will work on my computer?
The symbols open up on PC or Mac computers and are saved as JPEGs and Metafiles. The templates open up into Word 2002 onwards. Some of the templates are PDF files so you will need to download the free Adobe Reader from their website.
What do the symbols look like?
If you have a look at the freebies on the site, they will give you an idea of the quality of the symbols.
What is the difference between the two CDs?
It is in the titles really; School being more suited to the classroom and Home for day to day things at home. Both have everyday communication symbols which can be used in any situation.
What makes them different from other symbol systems?
I worked with people who have autism for ten years and I now work part-time with college students who have learning difficulties. I have tried to improve on symbols available to be more suited to autism, plus a wide age range and differing abilities. The price and availability make them accessible for everyone to use. Included are words and phrases that express needs. An example is ‘I want’ which can be placed before ‘drink’, ‘toilet’, etc. There are 1300 symbols on each CD including ‘hello’, ‘goodbye’ and ‘I have a headache.’ amongst many others.
